Welcome Prof. Lijian Meng to be the Editor-in-Chief of Non-Metallic Material Science

Prof. Lijian Meng is now appointed as the  Editor-in-Chief of Non-Metallic Material Science, which depends on his high prestige in the field of materials science and years of abundant experience. We believe that under his leadership, our journal can reach a higher level.

Professor Lijian Meng received his Ph. D. in 1994 from University of Minho, Portugal. He worked Department of Physics, Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, Portugal, as assistant professor (1994-1998), as associate professor (1998-2010) and as qualified full professor (2010-now). He also worked in the physics center of University of Minho as a researcher since 2005. His research interests are fabrication and characterization of semiconductor thin films.

Converting CO2 to valuable resources with the help of nanoparticles

An international research team has used nanoparticles to convert carbon dioxide into valuable raw materials. Scientists at Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany and the University of New South Wales in Australia have adopted the principle from enzymes that produce complex molecules in multi-step reactions. The team transferred this mechanism to metallic nanoparticles, also known as nanozymes. The chemists used carbon dioxide to produce ethanol and propanol, which are common raw materials for the chemical industry.

Making polyurethane degradable gives its components a second life

Polyurethane waste is piling up in landfills, but scientists have a possible solution: They have developed a method to make polyurethane degradable. Once the original product's useful life is over, the polymer can easily be dissolved into ingredients to make new products such as superglue. These polyurethanes could also be used in microscopic capsules that break open to release cargo such as biocides.(by American Chemical Society)
